For our special wedding anniversary trip to Florence, we enjoyed a fabulous Chianti wine tour with Vittorio. As a professional sommelier and native of Florence, he was an exceptional host, sharing extensive knowledge of Tuscan wines, food pairings, and local culture. The tour focused on the Chianti Classico sub-region, including visits to three wineries, ranging from a small family vineyard to a larger, well-known estate. We learned about Sangiovese grapes, DOCG and IGT wines, winemaking, and viticulture, while tasting delicious wines paired with traditional Tuscan cuisine. A homemade lunch at the family winery was a highlight, with wine poured by the winemaker. Small bites were also provided at the other wineries to illustrate perfect wine pairings, and vegetarian options were available upon request. Vittorio guided us through the scenic Chianti roads safely and comfortably. The tour was intimate, with only four participants, allowing for personal interaction and an enjoyable experience with a lovely couple from Australia. We purchased several wines during the tour and arranged shipment home, and also learned about extra virgin olive oil production at some wineries.
