Pomino is a restricted wine region within the municipality of Rufina, historically suited to viticulture and already protected by the famous 1716 rulebook of Cosimo III de' Medici — still among the most interesting appellations in Tuscany today.
Pomino grapes grow on some of the highest hills in Tuscany, between 400 and 700 meters above sea level, east of Florence, sharing its enchanting scenery with the DOCG Chianti Rufina zone.
The two most important white grape varieties are Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay — an unusual choice in a region where Trebbiano Toscano is normally the base of white wines. The resulting white shows straw yellow color with greenish reflections, and aromas of apple, pineapple, and white peach, fresh and pleasant on the palate with good structure.
