How does the truffle hunt actually work?
A trained dog (traditionally a Lagotto Romagnolo) sniffs out the truffle's scent underground. The hunter shows you where to dig carefully, and you'll see and smell a fresh truffle the moment it comes out of the ground.
Will I be sharing the tour with other travelers?
Yes — this is a small-group tour with a maximum of 8 participants, typically a mix of couples, friends and solo travelers. It is a good option if you would rather not book an entire private vehicle.
What should we wear for the truffle hunt?
Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting muddy, plus closed shoes — the truffle hunter provides rubber boots if the woodland is damp.

A wonderful day in every respect. Giovanni, our driver, was friendly and helpful, sharing so much about Tuscan food and wine along the way. I know when traveling there are options when selecting a tour to make sure you are making the best use of your time and budget. I can wholeheartedly say that this is a tour that should not be missed, especially since it is paired with a tour of a local winery which other tours do not normally include. We were first picked up by the guide in Florence and then drive . It is a full day of exploring a beautiful section of Tuscany hunting with the truffle dog and the thrill of finding one of these nuggets is very exciting. You then share a meal utilizing local truffles which is a great experience. You complete the tour at a local winery with a winery tour and tasting. This entire day was very special and was only made better thanks to the knowledge and personality of our guide Giuseppi, who was fantastic. I definitely recommend this tour and this team.

Raffaella picked us up right on schedule in Florence and kept us engaged throughout the comfortable drive to San Miniato. Once at the estate, Francesca outfitted us with rain boots and introduced us to Ciocco, who led us through the forest for ninety minutes and uncovered two black and two prized white truffles before he could snack on them himself! Walking back past olive groves overlooking the hills, we gathered in a welcoming dining room for multiple truffle courses, estate wine, homemade Vin Santo, and espresso. In the afternoon, we visited a Chianti winery to tour the cellars and compare two young Chianti DOCG vintages (2012 and 2014) alongside a Super Tuscan IGT, paired with fresh-pressed olive oil, country bread, and local cheeses — before Raffaella dropped us off back in Florence right by a top gelateria!
